Pinewick, Massachusetts is a small town of about five thousand, nestled on the Massachusetts coast. No one is clear on just when it was settled, though most of the locals agree that it was sometime in the early seventeenth century, possibly within the years after the Pilgrims first arrived on the shores of the New World. Located about thirty miles away from Salem, Pinewick seems to have it all – locally owned and operated businesses, a well-established elementary, middle, and high school, even a small college. The town is in a very rural area of the state, ensuring that it stays rather separate from everything else going on in the world. Some people have wondered about this exclusivity, but most don’t give it a second thought.
Why, you ask? Because, Pinewick is spelled so that most people don’t dwell on it much. Yes, you read that right – the town has a spell on it. Pinewick is home to a large community of supernatural beings, living among their own kind instead of in the human world. It is a safe haven for them, where they can escape the constraints of having to keep their natures secret. Witches, warlocks, vampires, shapeshifters, and werewolves all live side by side in Pinewick, going about their lives as though there was nothing unusual about them at all. However, Pinewick is also forced upon these creatures by the government and some aren't exactly happy about having to live there against there will. Several humans have also made their way into Pinewick over the years and reside there alongside their supernatural neighbors, keeping the town’s secrets along with the rest of the population. The difference about these humans is that they are members of witch/warlock or shifter families they just weren't born with the gift, and are forced to live there as well. Some much more happily than others.
